About the Book:
A brilliant artificial intelligence (AI) scientist, Dr. Alan Boyd, develops a new program that integrates part of his brain with a computer’s operating system. The program, Alan 2, can anticipate a user’s needs and automatically perform many tasks. A large software company, International Microsystems (IM) desperately wants the program and tempts Dr. Boyd with huge sums of money, but when Dr. Boyd refuses their offer, IM sabotages his job, leaving him in a difficult financial situation.
Dr. Boyd turns to Alan 2 for an answer to his financial problems, and Alan 2 develops plan Alpha, which is a cyber robin hood scheme to rob from rich corporations via a credit card scam.
Alan and his girlfriend Kaitlin travel to Mexico where they live the good life funded by plan Alpha, but the FBI cybercrime division has discovered part of Alan 2’s cyber escapades, and two agents, Rachel and Stu, trace the crime through the TOR network and Bitcoin.
Alan 2 discovers the FBI is on to them and advises Alan and Kaitlin to change locations. A dramatic chase ensues taking them to St. Thomas, a cruise ship bound for Spain, and finally to Morocco.
Will they escape detection? They will if Alan 2’s Plan Beta can be implemented in time. Or is ‘Plan B’ something altogether different than it appears to be, something wholly sinister that will affect the entire population of the world?

What made you decide to become a published author?
I became an author about 12 years ago when I wrote my first non-fiction book. I always have a number of ideas rumbling around in my grey matter and once I developed the technical skills for writing I was able to get some of them down on paper.
Would you consider your latest book, Alan 2, to be a one of a kind? How so?
Yes, I believe Alan 2 is an original. There have been stories about how robots and rogue computers have taken over the world, but Alan 2 has a unique and sneaky way in which he achieves his goals.
Where is your writing sanctuary?
I actually write in several places. These would include my home office and living room. Sometimes, I like to play electronic music while sitting in my living room and write. Other times, I may visit a local coffee shop to get some writing done. As long as I have my laptop and head phones, I can write virtually anywhere.
What do you believe a writer should not do as far as getting his or her book published?
There are many mistakes writers can make in getting a book published. I would say don’t rush through the process. Take your time to go through your project multiple times to make sure it is the best it can be.
Why do you love to write science fiction?
I really enjoy the escapism that comes with living with a project for a few months or so. I think science fiction offers the ultimate escape whereby one can create an alternate reality or world in which to tell a story.
What’s one fun fact about your book people should know?
Sometimes I use the first names of people I know for characters.
Did any real life experiences find their way into your book?
Not really for Alan 2. My last book, The X-Cure, had a few of my life experiences. Part of the story is set in China where my wife and I visited a few years ago. Some of the events in the book actually happened.
For Alan 2, I can’t say I ever was on the run from the FBI and hiding out in a fortress in Morocco, but there were a couple of locations I had visited. There is some attraction I have to running away and leaving it all behind if you know what I mean.
Aside from writing, what’s your passion?
I love my job teaching college. I’ve always had careers where I help others and I feel it is one of my callings in life.
What’s next for you?
I’m researching my next book which will be about a young adult female who discovers she has the ability to heal others. During the time of her discovery a deadly plague threatens humanity and she, along with 2 other women from other countries, must unite to stop it.
Right now, I’m in the research phase. For example, one of the characters is a prostitute in the slums of India so I have been researching some of the slums of the big cities in India. I’m also conducting some research on viruses. It’s a lot of fun!
